Wii U hit the market with two bundles, unlike the Wii which released in one bundle with one color, and one price, this is the first time Nintendo introduces more than one bundle on the release, this may confuse some people who are willing to buy the console on launch which bundle to pick, what’s the difference between the two bundles and why they would prefer one over another.
Price is an important factor for most people when it comes to buying anything, especially when buying a video game home console, Nintendo always cared to make its consoles economical, the Basic bundle is 300$, the Deluxe bundle is 350$, there is no big gap between the two bundles, so I will consider this as main factor on deciding which bundle to buy.
The color of the console
The Wii released in white color, the Wii U released in two colors, the Basic bundle is white, while the Deluxe is black, if you don’t care too much about the color of the console you don’t have care too much about this part.
The wii had a very tough storage policy, it had 512MB internal and up to 2GB SD card for storing saves, and other media, in the Wii U the Basic bundle has 8GB, and the Deluxe has 32GB, this memory will not be used for only saves, but it will be used to carry full games by downloading through the Nintendo eshop, moreover both bundles are able to handle external USB storage up to 2TB HDD, while you can’t download to the Basic any games without external storage, you will run out of space in the Deluxe as well.
What’s in the box
Both bundles have the Wii U console and gamepad, the Deluxe has Nintendo Land game and console and gamepad stand, and gamepad Cradle, also a Digital promotion exclusive for the Deluxe bundle, which will allow users to collect points (lasts until 2014) and use the points to buy games from the eshop.
The two bundles have close prices, but there are some advantages in the Deluxe that can’t get in the basic like the 32gb internal memory, and the Deluxe digital promotion, if you don’t care about those advantages you can simply build your decision base on one of the factors above, or any other factors.
